Hinge photo tips

On Hinge, people look through your whole profile, and they can like a single photo. That makes every photo matter, not just the first one. Here are plain tips for picking and ordering your Hinge photos.

Lead with your clearest photo

Your first photo should show your face clearly, with just you in it. Outdoor daylight is the easiest light to look good in. Save group photos for later, if you use them at all.

Look at the camera or close to it, with a relaxed expression. A real smile tends to come across well.

Show a little of your life

Since people look through more of your profile on Hinge, it helps to show a few sides of you. A photo doing something you enjoy, a photo with a nice background, and a photo that shows your style can all work.

A fun photo that is a bit weaker than your best ones is fine in the 3rd or 4th spot. It adds personality without being the first thing people see.

Try not to use several photos that look almost the same. Each photo should show something new about you.

Be careful reading too much into likes

When someone likes a certain photo, it is easy to think that photo is your best. But people often like a random photo while scrolling. It may just be the one in front of them when they decided to send a like.

If you want to know which photo really works best, compare them side by side with strangers.

Test your Hinge photos

On The Face They See, you upload 3 photos and real people of the opposite gender rank them from best to worst. You can choose the age range of the people who rank you, and add an ethnicity preference if you want.

Your upload goes live after you rank 5 other sets of photos. Results come in over a few days. Use your top photo first and keep testing the rest in new sets.

Friends are too nice to be honest about this. Strangers are more honest about which photo works. When your results are ready, you get a results card with a link you can share.

Taking better photos

Take dozens of photos and keep the best couple. Angles, expression, and style matter. Mirror selfies are rarely a good look. Light touch ups are fine, but do not look too AI.

If you are short, you do not need to hide it, but do not make it the first thing people notice. Every upload is free forever, including your second, third, and every one after that. Paying is only an optional way to skip the wait. You can pay $10 once or $30 for 5 skips, and paying does not change your results.

Common questions

Which Hinge photo should go first?
Your clearest photo of just you, ideally taken outside in daylight. Test your top options with real people to see which one wins.
Does a photo with lots of likes mean it is my best?
Not always. People often like a random photo while scrolling. A side by side ranking gives you a clearer answer.
Is this connected to Hinge?
No. You upload photos to The Face They See directly. It is free and works in your browser.
