The Face They See (thefacetheysee.com) is run by Blake Labs Inc, a California corporation. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Blake Labs Inc. We are the data controller for the information described here, which means we decide how it is used.
This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and how you can delete it. If you have a question, email us at hello@thefacetheysee.com.
What we collect
Account details: your email address and password. Your password is handled by our login provider and saved in a scrambled form, so we cannot read it.
Details about you: your gender, your age, your city and state, and a rough map point for that city (not your street or exact spot). If you choose who ranks you by ethnicity, we also ask for your own ethnicity. We also save whether you said yes to nearby matching, which is coming soon.
Who you want to rank you: the age range and ethnicities you pick for the people who rank your photos.
Your photos: the 3 photos you upload each time. Before they are sent, your browser resizes them and saves them as new image files. This removes hidden photo data, such as the GPS location some phones add.
Rankings: the rankings you give and get, including "I didn't like any of these photos" votes, how long each ranking took, and any reports you make.
Purchases: what you bought, the price and the date. Payment details are collected by Stripe, not by us.
Safety data: the IP addresses you use with your account, with the first and last time we saw each one. We use them to stop spam, fake accounts and abuse.
Site activity: simple records of steps like signing up, uploading and your photos going live, saved with your account so we can see how the site is used.
How we use your information
To run the site: to show your photos to the right people, to pick raters based on your choices, and to work out your results.
To send you emails about your account, such as your confirmation email, when your photos go live, when your results are ready, and when there are new photos to rank.
To take payments and give you what you bought.
To keep the site safe and fair, for example with bot checks at signup and by blocking accounts that break the rules.
To understand how the site is used and make it better.
To answer you when you contact us.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Who can see your photos
People ranking photos: your photos are shown to signed-in members while they rank them. We do not show raters your email address or your location.
Your share page: when your results are ready, they get their own page with a private link. Anyone who has that link can see your 3 photos in ranked order and how many people ranked them. We only give the link to you, so it is only seen by others if you share it. We ask search engines not to list share pages.
Our team: Blake Labs Inc can see photos and account details when needed to run the site, check reports and keep it safe.
Your photos are kept in private storage. They are shown through links that stop working after 1 hour.
AI and your photos
We never use your photos to train AI. We never use them for ads or marketing, and we never sell them.
When you pick photos, a face check runs inside your browser to make sure each photo shows a face. Your photos do not leave your device for this check. We also look at the photo files for labels that show a photo was made by AI.
Companies that help us run the site
We share information only with companies that help us run the site, and only what they need for that job:
Supabase stores our database, handles logins and keeps your photos.
Cloudflare hosts the site, protects it from attacks, and runs the bot check on the signup page.
Stripe handles payments. You pay on Stripe's own checkout page, so we never see or store your full card number.
Resend sends our emails.
Google suggests cities when you type yours on the signup page. The text you type is sent to Google from our server.
When you upload photos, your browser loads the face check tool from jsDelivr and Google. Your photos are not sent to them.
These companies may store and process information in the United States and other countries.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in. Cloudflare's bot check may use cookies or similar data for security. Your browser also saves a few small notes for the site, such as a notice you have already seen.
We do not use advertising cookies or tracking tools from other companies.
How long we keep your information
We keep your account, photos and rankings while your account is open.
You can delete a set of photos at any time on My Rankings. The photos are removed from storage right away, along with the rankings for that set.
Pausing a set hides it from raters but keeps it, so you can turn it back on.
To delete your account, email us at hello@thefacetheysee.com from the email address on your account. We delete your account, photos and rankings within 30 days.
IP addresses linked to your account are deleted with your account. Blocks on IP addresses end after 7 days.
Some records stay after you delete your account but no longer link to you, such as counts of signups.
Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires. Copies of data in our providers' backups are removed when those backups expire.
Age limit
You must be 18 or older to use The Face They See. We ask your age when you sign up and do not allow anyone under 18. If we learn that a photo shows someone under 18, we remove it and close the account.
Reporting a photo
If you see a photo of you that someone else uploaded, or a photo that may show someone under 18, email us at hello@thefacetheysee.com. Please include a link or a short description so we can find it. We remove reported photos from ranking as soon as we get your email, and then we look into it.
While ranking, you can also tap "Report: not the same person" if the 3 photos do not seem to show the same person.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to fix it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@thefacetheysee.com from the email address on your account and we will reply within 30 days.
If you live in California, you have these rights under California law, and we will not treat you differently for using them. We do not sell or share your personal information as those words are used in that law. We use your ethnicity only to match your photos with the raters you pick.
Keeping your information safe
The site uses a secure connection (HTTPS). Photos are kept in private storage, and access to our systems is limited. No system is perfect, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we will also email you.
