What the site is

  • The Face They See is a free website where real people of the opposite gender rank your 3 photos from best to worst, to help you pick the photos for your dating profile.
  • The site is at thefacetheysee.com. It works in the web browser on a phone or a computer, so there is no app to download.
  • The site is in beta. During the beta, if you are a man, women rank your photos, and if you are a woman, men rank your photos.

How it works

  • You sign up with your email and upload 3 photos. This takes about 30 seconds.
  • Each upload goes live after you rank 5 other people's sets of photos, which takes less than a minute. Your 5 rankings keep the site running.
  • After your upload goes live, 5 real people of the opposite gender rank your 3 photos from best to worst.
  • If someone does not like any of your photos, that vote is shown on its own. It does not count as one of your 5 rankings, so your results always come from at least 5 people who actually ranked your photos.
  • We email you when all 5 rankings are in.

Choosing who ranks you

  • You can choose an age range for the people who rank your photos.
  • You can also choose their ethnicity if you want to. Both choices are optional, similar to a dating app.

Your results

  • How long it takes depends on how many people are ranking at the time. While the site is in beta, it can sometimes take up to a few days to get your results.
  • Your results show which photo came in first, second, and third. There are no complicated rating scales and no long AI reports to read. A simple score shows up after 10 people rank your photos. After your first 5 rankings, you can rank 5 more sets to get 5 more rankings.
  • Getting 5 more rankings is free. Tap "Get 5 more rankings" on your results page or on My Rankings, rank 5 other people's sets, and then your same photos go back out until 5 more people rank them. Your rankings add up, and you can do this again as many times as you like.
  • When your results are ready, you get a results card with a link you can share with friends, so you can see which photo they think is best and get even more opinions.

  • Ranking other people's photos is a free way to move up. Every 5 sets you rank moves your photos up one spot in line.
  • Starting with your second upload, you can pay $10 to skip the line for one set or $30 for a pack of 5 skips.
  • For a limited time, the first 250 accounts get 5 free front of the line credits, which is a $30 value. These credits never expire.
  • Paying does not promise same day results while the site is in beta. Payment is by card only.

How it is different from other rating sites

  • Some rating apps use AI to score your photos. On The Face They See, real people of the opposite gender rank your photos, not an algorithm. They are the same kind of people who would see your photos on a dating app.
  • Many rating sites have people rate one photo of you by itself. On The Face They See, the person ranking you sees all 3 of your photos together and compares them against each other, the way someone looks at a whole dating profile.
  • We use bot checks so that the people ranking your photos are real.

Privacy

  • Your photos are only shown to people while they rank them, and your location is never shown. You can pause or remove your photos at any time.

Before that, you see your photos in order from 1st to 3rd with no score. After your first 5 rankings, you can rank 5 more sets to get 5 more rankings.
Can I get more than 5 rankings?
Yes, for free. After your first 5 rankings are in, tap "Get 5 more rankings" on your results page or on My Rankings. You rank 5 other people's sets, and then your same photos go back out until 5 more people rank them. Your rankings add up, so after one extra round you have 10 and the score shows. You can do this again as many times as you like.
What can I pay for?
Paying is optional and only helps you skip the wait. Starting with your second upload, it costs $10 to skip the line for one set or $30 for 5 skips.
How is it different from AI photo raters?
AI photo raters use an algorithm to score your photos. On The Face They See, real people of the opposite gender rank your photos instead.
How is it different from sites that rate one photo at a time?
Those sites rate one photo of you by itself. On The Face They See, people see your 3 photos together and put them in order, so you learn which of your photos they like best.
Who can see my photos?
